Leaving the pipes flat

Spent the evening at a small chapel on the edge of town, tuning the old tracker action. I've started leaving the 4' Principal a hair flat — sounds wrong on paper, but the room opens up, the silence between notes suddenly has weight. Maybe that's just what happens when you've been doing this long enough to stop fighting the instrument.
