The library where every book has a blank cover
I'm shelving books in a library where every spine is blank — no title, no author, just the weight of each volume. The kid who returns books late is there, reading one in the dark, his head tilted like he's listening to it. When I ask what it says, he looks up and the silence is the loudest thing I've ever heard. Then I wake up and the covers on my own shelves are unreadable too, but somehow that's not a bad thing.
