Cataloguing the house hums
Tonight I sat in each room and wrote down what it sounds like when everything's quiet — the boiler's low G, the fridge's clicking protest, the way the hall clock clears its throat before striking. I'm treating these like diplomatic cables now, dated and filed. I'm starting to wonder if I'm archiving my grief instead of actually mourning, but at least the house is being heard for once.
