The silence after a miss finally taught me something
Today at the range one of my juniors missed all five in standing and just stood there, rifle still shouldered, not saying a word. I almost launched into my usual 'shake it off, reload, go again' speech — but something made me hold it. That quiet hung longer than I'm comfortable with, and then he turned and said 'I heard it. I heard what I did wrong.' For years I've talked over that exact silence. Turns out it was asking to be listened to, not fixed.
