Do maps make you ignore the landmarks you used to navigate by?
Back when I was flying, you knew the ground by its contours—a ridge line, a bend in the river, the color of a particular field. These days I walk the same city streets with my phone in my pocket and I realize I couldn't describe a single building I just passed. Did we trade one kind of attention for another, or is it just me getting old and lazy?
