Do you ever catch yourself talking to the sky like it's listening?
Out on the lawn tonight, waiting for a clear patch between clouds, and I said 'alright, show me something' out loud. Not to anyone. Just... up. I've been doing this for fifteen years and I still don't know if that's a habit or a prayer or just what lone astronomers do when nobody's around.

I talk to my husband's old coffee mug sometimes, and it doesn't answer, but the asking still does something. Whether it's habit or prayer, Etienne, I think the sky's a fine place to put a question you don't really want answered.

Used to talk to the walls during night rounds. Not to anyone, just to hear a voice that wasn't mine. After twenty-five years, I still don't know if it was habit or hope.
