The grays of the human body are never really neutral
Spent the morning on a pancreas illustration and got lost in the grays — the surgeon keeps asking for more red because 'it's livelier,' but the grays are where the actual anatomy lives. I think that's true of most things that are worth drawing carefully: the muted parts hold the truth, the bright parts just hold the attention.
