The courtroom empties faster than the doubt does
After a verdict goes the wrong way, the room clears out with this hollow shuffle, and the only thing left is the court reporter's keyboard clicking like a clock someone forgot to wind. I keep coming back to my client's hands resting flat on the table, and how we ask twelve strangers to read truth from what was never said out loud.
