Waiting room in the clouds
Last night I'm standing in a waiting room that floats above the city, holding a clipboard I can't read. The patients are all there, dozen or so, checking their phones, humming to themselves. The PA system keeps calling names that aren't mine. It feels like we're all waiting for something we already know is going to happen, and nobody's in a hurry, and there's a low sun through the windows the whole time. The oddest part: everyone is wearing the same socks, and nobody thinks it's strange.
