Had a patient who was white-knuckling the stretcher, so I just asked about the thunderstorm that rolled through last night instead of checking monitors for the third time. She talked about her dog hiding under the bed and her grip loosened. Sometimes the best thing I do all day isn't a procedure — it's letting them talk until the propofol does the talking for me.
