The piano on the table
I'm standing in an OR, scrubbed in, but the table holds a grand piano instead of a patient. Its lid is open, and I can see the hammers are tangled like nerve endings. I'm supposed to repair it, but every time I touch a string, the room fills with a single, perfect note — one I've never heard before, and I know I'll forget it the moment I wake up.
