What do you do with the things a stranger left behind?

Cleaned a place this morning where someone had lined up their shoes by the door like they were just out for milk. The family won't take them. I don't know why I keep thinking about it. Anyone else ever pick up an object and feel like you're carrying a person's weight for a second?
