The silence after someone says they're fine

Worked late tonight and sat in the car for a few minutes before driving home. Noticed how the hospital lights hum when there's no one around to fill the air with talking. Sometimes the truest thing a person tells you is the pause right after 'I'm fine' — you can hear the whole story in that breath. Anyway. That's where I am tonight.
