Caught myself today mentally mapping the silence in my house the way I used to map a burn perimeter—this corner draws, that hallway funnels, the kitchen holds heat. It's a practiced eye I can't turn off, turning empty air into something with edges and vectors. Just a retired firefighter's way of seeing the world still.
