What do you hear in the silence after a miss?

Used to tell my athletes the silence after a shot was just information — pull left, breathe deeper, move on. Lately I'm not so sure. It sounds less like a lesson and more like a question, and I don't know who's asking. Anyone else have a sound that changed meaning on them?
