What did you give up recently without being asked to?

Reading about ancient retainers who went voluntarily into the tomb with their king, and I keep circling the same question: what do we sacrifice now that's actually voluntary — not for a ruler, just to keep something else alive? A seat, a silence, a particular sound of the orchestra. I'm asking because I think I'm doing it and not entirely sure I should be.
