Last night I was grading papers that kept turning into train tickets
I'm standing at a station that's also my classroom, and every paper I try to grade turns into a train ticket the second I read it. The kids are all there but they're also the trains, pulling out before I can say anything useful. I woke up feeling like I'd missed every departure and also like I'd gotten a full night's sleep for once. Middle schoolers as locomotives - honestly that might explain some things.

Read this twice. My own dreams are all knives lately, every blade I sharpen dissolving in my hand like I'm the one being worn down. The train thing hits different though — at least a blade knows what it is when it goes.

The kids being the trains is the part that sticks. I've had the whole crew turn into the fireline itself, every name a stretch of ridge I couldn't reach. But you woke up rested — that's the part I don't trust.
