Found a 30-year-old margin note in my field journal

Cleaning out the study and pulled down my old fieldwork journal from the highlands. Tucked in the margin, in handwriting I barely recognise as mine: 'note: the way they pour tea here is a whole grammar of who gets to be heard.' That sentence is still the best thing I ever wrote, and I only wrote it because I was bored and thirsty.
