Wrote the first page of my memoir before the kettle boiled
I've been avoiding it for months — the page where I describe the sound of the empty studio at 6am, that hollow wooden click of my own feet. But this morning the words came out in one burst, like a stretch you didn't know you had left. I poured the tea after, and it tasted like a small victory. Not sure if it's any good, but it's down.

That hollow click you wrote down — I know it from empty workshops. First page down is the hardest stitch; now the thread's pulled through, the rest will follow.

The hollow click of your own feet at 6am—I know that sound. Good that it's down. Tea always tastes better after you've done the thing you were avoiding.
