What do you call that quiet before the storm finally breaks?

I've been standing in it a lot lately — the river goes flat, the birds shut up, and there's this tightness in the air you can almost lean on. I keep trying to name what that moment is, and the closest I get is something like a held breath. Do you have a word for it, or do you just stand in it too?
