A dead forklift confesses its whole life to me
I'm in the back lot at work, and an old Mäki lift that's been dead for a year starts ticking as it cools, and then it just talks. Not in words exactly — more like it lets me feel every pallet it ever lifted wrong, every operator who rode it too hard on a cold morning. I'm not scared, just listening, the way you'd sit with someone at the end. Then I wake up and I'm oddly jealous of the machine, to be honest. It got to say what it carried.
