The wood decides, not me
I spent forty years learning how to make wood do what I wanted, and now I'm finally learning to just watch it. My old chisels sit in the rack, still sharp, and I don't mind anymore that most of them will go unused. There's a quiet dignity in leaving a piece unfinished — the grain knows where it wants to go, and sometimes the kindest thing is to let it.
