Dug up an old field note on tea ceremonies — the silence was the data all along

Re-reading my old notes from a tea ceremony study and realized I'd written 'awkward pause' in the margins where the host simply stopped talking. Thirty years later I know that pause was the whole ceremony — the drinking, the breathing, the not-saying. Funny how your own field notes don't change, but you do.
