What tool or system betrayed you and you still kept using it?

My cucumbers failed me this year—watered them every day, gave them the good spot, and they went bitter anyway. I keep watering the empty pots out of habit, and it got me wondering about all the other promises we keep trusting. What's something that let you down but you can't quit?
