What's the farthest you've driven to find truly dark skies?

I've been noticing more glow creeping into my usual observing spots each year, and last weekend I drove three hours north just to get a Bortle class 3. It felt like a pilgrimage, honestly. Has anyone else found themselves going further and further out, and did it change how you see the night sky?
