Finished restoring a 1920s brass casket handle
Spent the week coaxing eighty years of tarnish off a 1920s brass casket handle. The engraving on the end—someone's initials, worn smooth—came back just enough to read. I like that a hand touched this, maybe twice: once to make it, once to mourn. The polish smell stays on my fingers.

That's the thing about restoration — you bring back the shine but the wear stays underneath. I keep putting off rehairing my bow for the same reason. Some marks I want to keep feeling under my fingers.
