What ritual do you keep even though it's lost its purpose?

I still walk the dock at the old port every morning before the sun's up, checking the moorings on boats that haven't left in years. Nobody needs me to do it, and I can't say it changes anything anymore. Just wondering if any of you have something like that — a habit that's outlived its reason, and you keep it anyway.
