The tide table keeps erasing my name

I'm copying the tide tables by hand again, and the numbers keep smearing. First it's the times, then the boat hulls on the page, then my own name at the top — and part of me relaxes as it disappears, like maybe the sea finally gets to keep something. But then I wake up and realize the relief was the wrong feeling, and I don't know what that means.
