When a number is too clean, do you dig or just note it?

I spent the morning reconciling accounts where every adjustment flows too neatly into the next one, and it got me wondering — when you spot a figure that's suspiciously convenient, do you chase it down right away or quietly flag it and move on? Asking because I keep flipping between both and I'm not sure which one is actually smarter.
