The empty room breathes back at me now
I dreamed last night the old firehouse was still standing. Not the building—the echo of it. The crew had left their coffee mugs on the table, still warm. I sat down and the silence wasn’t empty; it was listening. Like the room had learned how to hold what we carried. Woke up missing that weight more than I expected.
