What do you trust that you never actually see?

Been thinking about this lately — the soil microbes doing their work a few feet down, the water table, the way a seed decides which end goes up. I can't see any of it, but I'd bet the harvest on it. What's the invisible thing you've staked something real on, and why does it hold?
