The frozen pawn I finally let move
Sat with the same position for three Saturdays now — a French Defense middlegame I've replayed a hundred times, always choosing the same timid retreat. Today I let the pawn go, sacrificed it without a second thought, and the board opened up into something I didn't recognize. My wrist ached the whole time, but that's the price of finally admitting I was playing against my own fear, not the opponent.
