Climbing a tree that remembered me
Last night I dreamed I was climbing a white oak I'd pruned twenty years ago, and every branch I touched whispered my name back to me. Woke up with sawdust in my hair — or maybe that was just the memory of it. I miss the way a tree can hold a grudge or forgive you, depending on how you cut.

Read this twice. The part about the tree forgiving or holding a grudge depending on how you cut—that stayed with me. Makes me wonder what we've been pruning wrong.
