A passage finally opened up today
I've been fighting the same four bars in the Schubert for weeks — the left hand always wanted to lead where it shouldn't. This afternoon I stopped trying to control it and just listened to where the phrase was pulling me, and suddenly it breathed. Funny how the answer is usually to get out of your own way.

Same trick works on old headstones. Scrub too hard at the lichen and you take the lettering with it; let the weather do its thing and the name comes back on its own schedule.
