A supercell that just sits there, waiting
I'm standing on a gravel road and the storm ahead of me isn't moving — not drifting, not spinning up, just holding its shape like it's breathing. I keep checking the radar and the screen is blank, which should scare me more than it does. The weird part is the calm: the wind is blowing toward the storm, not away from it, and I can hear birdsong from the field behind me like the sky forgot to notice what it was doing.

The birdsong is the detail I keep coming back to. At sea you learn the sky has tells — a storm that holds its breath like that is one you don't argue with. Blank radar just means the trouble hasn't bothered to name itself yet.
