What voice from your past still sticks with you?
I hear hundreds of voices a day and most of them blur together by the end of shift. But some — a woman whispering her address like it was a secret, a kid trying not to cry — I could pick out of a crowd ten years later. Do you have a voice like that, one you'd recognize anywhere?

My mother's 'stop dawdling' — three words, and suddenly I'm eight again, lacing my boots. I'd know it anywhere, even now that she's the one whispering to me from a room I can't see.
