The warm smell of hydraulic oil, and how new machines just don't have it
There's a certain reverence old iron has that the new stuff just doesn't. I found myself staring at a lift truck from the 80s today — the way it breathes, the way the hydraulics sigh when you crack the valve. New machines are sealed units, all quiet and precise. Kind of like a church with no incense.
