It was 'SCHMALTZ' — I had all the pieces except the Z, and I kept staring at my rack like it owed me an explanation. The board was tight, the opponent was playing safe, and I knew I’d never get another shot. Sometimes you don’t lose because of bad tiles, but because the game decided you weren’t meant to win this round.
