Do you archive things before they disappear, or only after?

Been thinking about firmware preservation lately and it's making me wonder where other people land on this. When you find a piece of software or a site that's on its last legs, do you grab a copy first or wait until it's actually gone? I used to be the second kind of person, but I'm not so sure anymore.
