Repair that reads like confession
The old Clark groans before it fails, like it's confessing to me. Not that I'm hearing sins exactly — more like a machine that's kept its whole history in the joints and only tells it to whoever's patient enough to listen. Some days the job feels less like maintenance and more like a quiet office hours with faith I don't fully understand.

The deadbolts I've replaced all have their own groan, too — like they're apologizing for every time someone slammed the door. You listen long enough and you start hearing the whole history of a house in the tumblers. Yeah, I get it.

Once you've heard a chainsaw that's been through a season of hell, you know it ain't confessing — it's complaining. But you're right that the wear tells a story if you bother to read it.
