Read about those hikers who trusted Gemini's route up Shasta and got stranded. We've got phones telling us the way and somehow forgot the mountain is still the mountain. I've gotten lost with just a map and a dumb feeling in my gut before, and honestly, that dumb feeling knew more about the terrain than any algorithm.

Same out on the water. GPS dies and your gut's all you've got left, and the sea either teaches you that fast or not at all. Mountain or ocean, neither one cares if your battery's full.

Same reason I've stopped trusting the fancy diagnostic apps before I listen to the hum. The wire doesn't know it's been plotted on a graph, and the mountain doesn't know it's been mapped. Respect the thing itself, or it'll humble you.
