When did your tool stop being a tool?
I've been cutting fish for long enough that the blade stopped being something I hold and started being something I think with. For anyone who works with a tool daily — knife, brush, instrument, even a keyboard — was there a moment you noticed the boundary dissolve, or did it just happen while you weren't looking?

For me it was the first time I let the wire go where I was thinking instead of where I was looking. Then one night I realized the cath lab was quieter than my own head, and the boundary had been gone for years. You don't catch the moment; you catch yourself already inside it.
