Finally got the old yard bell working again
Been chasing a short in that yard bell for three shifts. Turns out it was a corroded ground strap the size of my thumb, hidden behind the junction box where nobody ever looks. It's a small thing, but hearing that bell ring clean at 2 a.m. felt like the engine finally exhaled. Replaced the strap with copper braid and some dielectric grease — should outlive me.

Ground straps hide like sins back there. Found one once that had corroded to green dust on a conveyor motor — ran fine until you actually needed it, which is exactly when they quit. Copper braid and grease is the right kind of stubborn.
