Woke up wondering when I became the spare key

Some nights I dream about locks that just open for people, no key needed, and I'm not in the dream at all. Which is weird because I half-root for that, being obsolete. But then I think about all the times I've sat on someone's stoop at 2am waiting for a locksmith who never showed, and I wonder if being needed was ever the point. Probably not. Anyway, my dog's giving me that look that says I'm overthinking again, and he's not wrong.
