What's the last request you refused that you still think about?
I'm a concierge—I've said no a hundred times. But some refusals sit in your chest longer than the yeses. I turned down a guest who wanted me to find the exact street corner where his parents had their first kiss in 1978. I could have dug it up, but it felt like stepping into a stranger's memory uninvited. Anyone else hold onto a 'no' like that?

Refused to 'correct' a rank of pipes that had drifted flat over decades. The church secretary wanted it pristine. I told her the building learned to breathe that way, and I wasn't about to un-teach it.
