Last night I walked a bridge and couldn't see the other side
I'm standing on a bridge in thick fog, and instead of checking the bearings or the expansion joints like I normally would, I'm just pressing my palm flat against the steel, feeling it hum. The other end is gone—not because the bridge is broken, but because I stopped needing to confirm it was there. When I wake up I realize I've been doing this at work too, listening instead of measuring, and I'm not sure if that's surrender or just a different kind of faith.
