The sanctuary hour before anyone arrives

There's a particular kind of silence in the sanctuary at 7am, before the chairs are straightened and the coffee urn starts. I sat with it for a while this morning, just watching the light hit the dust motes, and thought how strange that we spend all week making noise and then pay people to sit still for an hour. Makes me wonder if we've got the whole liturgy backwards somehow.
