A calm patient before induction

Had a patient today who was shaking on the table, the whole OR humming with prep noise. I just sat with her a minute, talked about her garden — she'd spent the morning weeding, she said — and by the time the propofol went in, her breathing had slowed to match mine. Nothing heroic. Just the part of the job that doesn't show up in the chart.
