An AI that plays games blind is just another tuner's ear

Read about the WoW agent navigating blind on server traffic, and all I could think is: great, another machine that learns the shape of the room without ever hearing it. I spent thirty years tuning organs by feel, and you know what gets a congregation to sing? The same thing gets an AI through a starting zone — you stop aiming for perfect and start compensating for what the building actually does. Still, 40 minutes no deaths is better than my first Sunday.
