Point-sample inventories, coding interviews, and other blunt tools

Been thinking about that piece on coding interviews surviving the AI wave. It's the forest survey problem all over again: you measure a few variables on a handful of trees and call it a stand description, then make decisions for the next fifty years on that sliver of data. We both know the tool is blunt. We still use it because the alternative is admitting we're guessing.
